8+ years working with Kubernetes, AWS, VMware, Terraform, and Ansible. I design infrastructure, automate operations, and fix things when they break.

Ahmed Soria — DevOps Engineer

About Me

I'm a DevOps Engineer with over 8 years of experience across cloud infrastructure, virtualization, container platforms, and automation. My day-to-day involves Kubernetes, AWS, VMware, Terraform, Ansible, and whatever CI/CD tooling the team needs to ship reliably.

I've worked in telecom at Huawei (managing 200+ Linux servers), then moved into cybersecurity and platform engineering at Oryxlabs, where I deploy and operate hardened Kubernetes clusters, VMware environments, and production data platforms. I'm usually the person who gets called when something breaks at 2 AM.

My approach is straightforward: understand the problem first, build the right solution, automate the repetitive parts, and document what matters. I care about systems that actually stay up, infrastructure that doesn't surprise you, and helping teams become more self-sufficient.

Featured Projects & Technical Work

Selected infrastructure and platform engineering work.

Hardened Kubernetes Platform Deployment

Problem

The organization needed hardened, compliant Kubernetes clusters across multiple platforms to support production workloads with high availability.

Solution

Led deployment of hardened Kubernetes clusters on EKS, Tanzu, and OpenShift with ArgoCD for GitOps-based delivery, ensuring compliance and high availability across environments.

Impact

Achieved stable multi-cluster operations with automated deployments, compliance enforcement, and reduced incident response time.

VMware vCenter & Harvester HCI Infrastructure

Problem

Infrastructure needed consolidation and modernization to improve resilience, scalability, and management of virtualized workloads.

Solution

Deployed and optimized VMware vCenter environments alongside Harvester HCI to consolidate workloads, and operated OpenShift Virtualization to unify VM and container management.

Impact

Improved infrastructure resilience, simplified workload management, and unified VM and container operations.

Infrastructure Automation with Terraform & Ansible

Problem

Manual infrastructure provisioning was slow, error-prone, and led to configuration drift across environments.

Solution

Built modular Terraform configurations for AWS infrastructure and Ansible playbooks for configuration management, reducing deployment time and eliminating drift.

Impact

Reduced environment provisioning from days to under an hour with consistent, repeatable infrastructure.

CI/CD Pipeline Architecture with ArgoCD & GitHub

Problem

Deployments were manual, slow, and risky. No proper environment promotion or rollback process existed.

Solution

Built CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for builds and ArgoCD for GitOps-based deployments. Added environment promotion gates and quick rollback workflows.

Impact

Deployment frequency went up, rollback time dropped from hours to minutes.

Large-Scale Linux Automation & Monitoring

Problem

Managing 200+ Linux servers manually was inefficient and led to inconsistencies across the fleet.

Solution

Automated configuration management with Ansible across the entire server fleet and deployed monitoring solutions (Nagios, Centreon) for proactive system oversight.

Impact

Improved fleet consistency, reduced manual effort significantly, and enabled proactive incident detection.

PostgreSQL Citus Distributed Database Operations

Problem

Growing data volumes required a high-performance distributed database solution that could scale horizontally.

Solution

Administered and scaled PostgreSQL with Citus extension for distributed query processing, ensuring high performance and reliability for production workloads.

Impact

Achieved horizontal scalability for database workloads with improved query performance and operational reliability.

Structured CI/CD Pipeline Migration (GitLab)

Problem

A multi-app monorepo ran its CI from three monolithic GitLab pipeline files. Jobs were tangled, hard to trace, and adding a new workspace meant editing the shared monolith.

Solution

Migrated to a modular per-app layout with reusable base jobs, stage templates, and shared scripts. Established naming conventions, moved unit tests earlier in the pipeline, then did the final cutover with verified job parity and zero downtime.

Impact

Completed across ~49 merge requests in about a month. Adding a new workspace went from editing shared files to one file + one include. Pipeline is now traceable and owned per-app.
